How to Visit Lago di Braies in 2026: Parking, Shuttles, & Rules
Lago di Braies (also known as Pragser Wildsee) is one of the most iconic lakes in the Dolomites, famous for its turquoise waters, vintage wooden rowboats, and the dramatic Seekofel massif serving as a cinematic backdrop. It is undoubtedly one of the region's most popular tourist spots, thanks to its relatively flat walking trail and easy access that attracts visitors of all ages.
Beyond its postcard-perfect beauty, the lake holds a special place in the heart of the hiking community as the official starting point of the Alta Via 1. This legendary high-altitude trail stretches approximately 120km south toward Belluno, and starting your journey here means beginning with one of the most breathtaking views in the Italian Alps.
However, its popularity has led to strict management. Here is exactly how to visit Lago di Braies in 2026 to ensure a smooth visit on the day.
2026 Access Restrictions
To maintain the serenity of this protected area, access to the P4 parking lot at the Valley of Braies is restricted during the peak summer season.
The Restriction Period: July 1 – September 15, 2026.
The "Closed" Hours: 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
However, you can still reach the lake by parking at the alternative lots (P1, P2, or P3), using public transport, or arriving before the 9:00 AM restriction begins.
Understanding the Parking Lots: P1, P2, P3, & P4
There are four parking areas. While P4 is the only one that must be booked to drive in during the day, each lot has its own rules:
Understanding the Parking Lots: P1, P2, P3, & P4
The Pragser Tal valley offers four distinct parking options. Each serves a different need depending on how early you arrive and whether you prefer to plan ahead.
P4: Directly at the Lake (100m away)
Best For: Maximum convenience and travelers with limited mobility.
Booking: Must be pre-booked at pragsparking.com to drive to the lake during restricted hours (9:00 AM – 4:00 PM). Reservations open from June 2026.
Cost: €15–€30. This is the most expensive option but includes a restaurant voucher in peak season.
Payment: Pay at the automatic cash kiosks at the lot. They accept EC cards (Bankomat) and Credit Cards (Note: No American Express). You can also pay with cash (bills and coins).
Camper: P4 offers a limited number of spaces for campers over 2 meters in height, but these cannot be booked online or reserved in advance. Online tickets are valid only for cars (up to 9 seats) and motorcycles.
P3: Large Lakeside Lot (300m away)
Best For: Early birds arriving before the 9:00 AM restriction.
Booking: Cannot be reserved.
Cost: Approximately €12. It operates on a first-come, first-served basis and usually fills up by 8:30 AM.
P2: The "Budget" Choice (800m away)
Best For: Those who don't mind a 10-minute walk to save a few Euros. Electric car charging stations can be found here.
Booking: Cannot be reserved.
Cost: Approximately €7. Like P3, this lot fills up very early in the morning.
P1: The "Park & Ride" (5.5km away)
Best For: A stress-free, guaranteed experience without the P4 price tag.
Booking: Can be pre-booked at prags.bz. Reservations typically open in early June 2026.
Cost: €15 for a 1-day pass.
The Perk: Your P1 booking includes a free shuttle ticket (for up to 10 passengers) that drops you directly at the lake.
Service: Shuttles run every 30 minutes from 9:10 AM to 17:25 PM, meaning no waiting for a space to open up.

Important Rules: Drones & Privacy
Because the lake is a protected UNESCO site and much of the surrounding land is private, drone rules are very strict:
Private Property: The hotel area, parking lots, and the beach up to the lake shore are private property. Photography and filming with drones are prohibited in these areas.
Universal Ban: This applies to all drones, including amateur photography and "mini" drones weighing less than 250g.
Publication: Drone images may only be published with explicit permission from Hotel Lago di Braies srl.
Legal Restrictions: Panoramic flights are prohibited by law over the entire lake and the Nature Park. Drones must maintain a flight altitude of at least 20 meters above private property, and places, structures, or people must not be recognizable.
